By specializing in electromagnetics, Geonics has been able to develop, over the years, a broad range of unique instrumentation for an increasingly diverse field of applications.

With the development of the EM31 Ground Conductivity Meter in 1975, Geonics began to service industries with an interest in near-surface information including engineering, geotechnical and environmental markets. Later development of the EM34-3 and EM38 Ground Conductivity Meters further expanded the range of applied markets to include ground water exploration, agriculture and archaeology.

Requirements within the environmental industry to monitor the vertical distribution of ground water contamination led to the development of the EM39, a highly sensitive borehole conductivity probe.
