Gravity Meters

Gravity surveying involves the measurement of the Earth's gravitational field, which is a function of:

Distance from the centre of the Earth
Centrifugal acceleration due to the Earth's rotation
The distribution of the mass, which is controlled by the presence of hills and valleys in the vicinity of the observation point and changes in the density of rocks in the Earth

After making the necessary corrections to the recorded data, the final gravity anomaly map represents variation in the mass distribution in the Earth. The method is being increasingly used in the location of cavities, voids, and abandoned mine shafts.
