The reference of all-purpose resistivity meters
- Easy to use, Accurate, reliable,
- Computation of electrical Resistivity and Chargeability,
- Internal Memory, Transfer to computer,
- Adaptable external power source
- Output up to 800 V, 2.5 A
- Applications for Groundwater, Environment and Mining
SYSCAL R2 is a high-power fully automatic resistivity meter for DC electrical surveys applied to groundwater exploration, environmental studies, civil engineering and structural geology investigation; for mineral exploration its Induced Polarization parameter (IP chargeability) completes the information given by the classical DC electrical parameter (resistivity).
SYSCAL R2 includes a transmitter and receiver within one single compact housing.
SYSCAL R2 uses an external DC source for energizing the ground (800 V maximum
output voltage) :
- DC/DC converter supplied by a 12 V battery
- AC/DC converter supplied by a standard motor generator
SYSCAL R2 generates the current, measures its intensity as well as the voltage and the standard deviation.
SYSCAL R2 is controlled by a microprocessor for :
- Automatic Self-Potential compensation
- Automatic ranging
- Digital stacking for signal enhancement
- Error display in case of procedure troubles
SYSCAL R2 computes and displays the apparent resistivity for most common
electrode arrays :
- Schlumberger and Wenner soundings and profiling
- Gradient profiling, dipole-dipole
SYSCAL R2 measures and displays the apparent chargeability (Induced Polarization parameter) through up to four chargeability programmable windows.
SYSCAL R2 stores the data in its internal memory (more than 800 readings), each reading including current, voltage, SP, resistivity, chargeability, spacings, station number, etc.
SYSCAL R2 features a serial link for data transfer to a microcomputer or a printer for further plotting and interpretation of the data. SYSCAL R2 can also be fully controlled by a computer through a serial link in the REMOTE function.
ACCURATE: SYSCAL R2 measuring process has been optimized to provide the
best possible accuracy in real field conditions. It features : - A noise monitoring
system for pre-injection control, consisting of a DC digital voltmeter function.
- A line check/ground resistance measurement which permits to check that all
four electrodes are properly connected to the resistivity meter.
- A low-pass analog filter which reduces the effect of higher frequency natural
and cultural noises (50-60 Hz).
- Automatic SP compensation, including linear drift correction (up to 1 mV/s)
through a digital filter.
- Automatic gain ranging for both current and voltage measurements. Any variation
of current is automatically compensated by measurement of V/I ratio.
- Automatic digital stacking to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio for as long
as the operator wants, with a maximum of 250 stacks. During the stacking,
the operator can monitor either the instantaneous value (to observe the convergence
of the average value).
- A continuous quality test procedure, which stops the averaging process when
the noise level becomes too high, but keeps the previously stacked data. The
averaging procedure starts again when noise decreases. This procedure optimizes
the time of data acquisition in very noisy areas.
- Resolution after stacking of 1 µV for measuring low-amplitude signals. The
standard deviation is displayed to give an indication of the noise level during
measurement.
EASY TO USE: Designed for high productivity surveys, SYSCAL R2 is driven
by the operator through easy-to-use interactive menus. Only a few keys control
the operation of the instrument at each new reading :
- strike SPACING to enter the wire lines lengths
- strike START to inject current and continuously display the current I, voltage
V, standard deviation q and number of stacks #
- strike STOP to terminate the injection of current.
- strike RESULT to compute and display the average value of resistivity RHO
and of its standard deviation
- strike STORE to save the data.
RELIABLE: SYSCAL R2 has been designed to operate in large range of field
conditions. It is suited for :
- High-latitude cold countries,
- Dusty and hot desert areas,
- High humidity tropical forests.
Its field-conditioning specifications include :
- A sturdy vibration-proof fiber-glass case,
- A large operating temperature range (-20°C to +70°C),
- A weather-proof design for operation up to 100 % humidity.
INDUCED POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS: In addition to apparent resistivity,
SYSCAL R2 also measures the apparent chargeability which is the Time Domain
Induced Polarization (IP) parameter. The IP method is used in mineral exploration
for the detection of massive and disseminated mineralization.
A pulse-current waveform is transmitted (ON+ OFF, ON-, OFF) and the IP decay
curve is analyzed with four chargeability windows.
The pulse duration (ON time), the delay time and the width of each individual
window is programmable.
The average value (M) of the four partial chargeabilities (Mi.) is computed
and displayed during measurement, while the four Mi. values are available
after the measurement.
The chargeability values normalized with respect to a standard decay curve
can the displayed for the detection of EM coupling or noise effects.
With this versatile chargeability measurement, SYSCAL R2 is not only a
resistivity meter
but also a low-weight and low-cost IP system for shallow mineral exploration.

Measured parameters;
