Induced Polarization and Full Waveform Resistivity Course July 2025

Event Description
Geomatrix together with Iris Instruments are running a 2-day IP and resistivity course which will showcase the Syscal Terra 72 Switch resistivity system. The course will largely focus on Full waveform IP and resistivity data Aquisition. The first day will cover the theory, case studies, survey design and case studies, with an afternoon practical session which will focus on the syscal terra 72 ERT system operation maintenance and data acquisition. The second day we will look over the acquired data and the full waveform and on time IP measurements as well as the resistivity inversion.
This course is suited to those that work in the Hydrogeological, Geotechnical Engineering site characterisations, Geological exploration, Academic & Scientific sectors and to those who are interested in learning more about this geophysical technique.

Day 1 - 9th July 2025
Theory and Practical Day - Led by [Iris Instruments & Geomatrix Ltd]
Morning Session [09:00am-12:00om]
[09:00am-09:30am] Overview of the course programme and
venue health and safety briefing
[09:30am-11:00am] Explanation and overview of Resistivity and Full waveform IP theory
[11:00am- 12:00pm] Theory continued with application and case study examples
Lunch [12:00pm-13:00pm]
Afternoon Session [ 13:00-17:00pm]
[13:00pm – 13:30pm] Field Methods, Survey design and techniques and Data Acquisition
[13:30pm – 16:00pm] Practical session using the Syscal Terra 72 switch
resistivity system, equipment operation, maintenance and data acquisition
[16:00pm – 16:30pm] Demonstration of the data harvesting/ Download and pre-processing
[16:30pm – 17:00pm] Sum up of the day and quick overview of the next day

Day 2 - 10th July 2025
Processing Day - Led by [Iris Instruments & Geomatrix Ltd]
Morning Session [09:00am -12:00pm]
[09:00am-09:30am] Overview of data processing of Full waveform and on time IP measurements with focus on environmental applications
[09:30am-11:30am] Data quality control and QC processing filters
[11:30am-12:00pm] Question and answer session
N/B there will be exercise sessions to help with the processing steps
Lunch [12:00pm-13:00pm]
Afternoon Session [13:00pm-17:00 pm]
[13:00pm – 14:00pm] Example field datasets reviewed, and data quality examined.
[14:00pm – 16:00pm] Modelling and inversion –manual data processing, filtering, 2D (lateral) inversions and how to visualise the data
[16:00pm – 17:00pm] Course Sum up, Question and Discussion session and final Key Points
